NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group is a commissioning organisation. We are responsible for commissioning, or purchasing services for the public from other organisations, which are known as provider organisations. We also monitor and manage the contracts.

Keeping yourself and your family healthy and safe is important. Basic things people can do to help include;

  • Regularly washing hands to prevent the spread of germs
  • Taking regular exercise
  • Enjoying a balanced diet
  • Avoiding tobacco and excess alcohol

If you need to seek help for a health issue there are many choices that can be made depending on what it is. Many minor ailments are not of a serious nature and don’t require a trip to the GP practice as they will resolve themselves within a short time.

If treatment is needed for a minor ailment, over the counter remedies can usually help and these are available directly from a local pharmacy or supermarket. This is the best course of action for most;

  • Coughs
  • Colds
  • Sore throats
  • Upset stomachs
  • Aches and pains
  • Minor cuts and burns

Medicine cabinet and first aid kit essentials include:

  • Painkillers (syrup for children)
  • Ibuprofen gel
  • Indigestion remedies
  • Cream or spray to treat insect bites/stings
  • A thermometer
  • Antihistamine medicine for allergies
  • Plasters and dressings

There is lots of useful information on many health conditions on the NHS Choices website.
