Integrated Elective Care Pathway (IECP)

Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group (HMR CCG) has commissioned a service called an Integrated Elective Care Pathway (IECP).

What is an Integrated Elective Care Pathway?

Integrated care puts patients firmly at the centre of their own health and social care needs. It provides diagnoses and treatment closer to home while allowing patients to decide what treatment is best   for them. Patients become integral with their own healthcare.

The IECP brings together four partner organisations BMI Highfield, InHealth (formerly known as Care UK), GP Care Services Ltd and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to deliver the following specialty services:

  • Ear Nose and Throat (ENT)
  • Gynaecology
  • Orthopaedics (bones and joints)
  • Urology
  • Gastrointestinal

By working together these partner organisations offer a streamlined approach for patients referred by their GPs. All referrals will be managed at a single point that is managed by all the partners by bringing together their skills and expertise from both primary and secondary care.

How does the service work?

Once a patient has been referred to one of the specialty services their GP will complete a dedicated form that will be assessed by the single point triage team. The triage team will assess the referral and will place the appointment with one of the partner organisations that is the most appropriate for treatment with the shortest wait time. Following the patients’ appointments some patients will be referred on to hospital for surgery or specialist medical treatment and some patients will be discharged back to their GP with lifestyle advice.

Is my information safe?

All records shared between the partner organisations will be covered by NHS Information Governance and by sharing information between all relevant partner organisations we will ensure patients only have to re-tell their health story once unless clinically required.

Where will appointments be held?

All appointments aim to be community based and will take place within the most appropriate clinical environment.
