June 2018

Welcome to June’s blog and there’s a lot on the CCG’s calendar this month.

On Friday 15 June we are holding a day of special events at Number One Riverside, Smith Street, Rochdale and all colleagues, stakeholders and residents are invited to attend. We will be celebrating the borough’s health and social care services, the difference that devolution of health and social care in Greater Manchester has made to people in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale and the NHS’s 70th birthday.

The day will begin at 9am with marketplace event in the foyer where our services and stakeholders will be showcasing their work.

The formal AGM will begin at 10am followed by a celebration of the transformation work in the borough that has been made possible through the Greater Manchester transformation fund.

At 12.30pm, final judging of entries for our NHS 70th birthday card design competition will take place. I’d like to thank all those local primary school pupils and schools who got involved in the competition. We received more than 400 entries from across the borough and the standard was very high, so shortlisting finalists has been a challenge!

I’m delighted to announce that the HMR STAR Awards 2018 have launched. The awards aim to celebrate and recognise CCG staff, GPs and GP practice staff for the excellent work they do to help NHS HMR CCG deliver its objectives and achieve its vision of healthier people, better future.

There are five award categories, with one – People's STAR (Nancy Fallon Memorial Award) – open to local people and patients to nominate local GPs, practice managers, practice nurses or GP receptionists who deserve special thanks and recognition. You can find out more about the STAR Awards and download a nomination form on our website here. This month both Diabetes Week and Carers Week take place 11-17 June. The theme of Diabetes Week is ‘talk about diabetes’ - from telling someone you’ve just met about your diabetes, to trying to explain carb counting to relatives or avoiding that chat with your doctor. Diabetes is one of the UK’s biggest health crises, and it’s on the rise. We’ll be joining the conversation on Twitter and Facebook. Read more about the condition here.

During Carers Week Rochdale Carers Hub has organised a packed programme of events for the 25,000 carers across the borough – read more about what’s going here

As Ramadan comes to an end, I’d like to wish everyone ‘Eid Mubarak’! Throughout Ramadan we’ve been supporting colleagues who have been observing the festival by sharing healthy fasting advice, staff members have taken turns to join their peers in the fast and we have also been collecting donations for Rochdale Food bank – thank you to everyone who has got involved.

Finally a couple of diary dates for next month. On 10 and 11 July representatives from HMR CCG and Rochdale Borough Council will be talking to local people about plans to transform health and social care in Rochdale borough. These roadshow events will be held 10am - 3pm at  Number One Riverside – come along and find out more.

Our next Governing Body meeting will be on Friday 20 July, 10.30am - 12.30pm at Number One Riverside. This meeting is held in public and local people are very welcome to attend. You can read more about the meeting here and the agenda and papers will be available on our website here soon.

Thanks for reading.
