Competition now closed

Four primary school pupils from Rochdale borough have been announced winners of our competition to design a 70th birthday card for the NHS in this very special year.

The NHS turns 70 on 5 July 2018 and to mark this occasion we joined up with Rochdale Borough Council to ask pupils from across the borough of Rochdale in Reception class to Year 6 to create a 70th birthday card which shows how doctors, nurses and other health professionals have helped them, their families and friends.

The competition got a terrific response, with over 400 entries from across the borough. Four finalists were announced at HMR CCG's Annual General Meeting on 15 June 2018. Read the full news story here.

The winners each received prizes from Link4Life, which operates leisure, arts and culture venues and activities throughout Rochdale borough. The winners were:

First prize: Amelia Platt, age 8 from Heap Bridge Village Primary School who won a six month Junior Link4Life membership

Brief

We’d like primary school age children in Rochdale borough to think about the many different people who work in the NHS and social care and who play a role in looking after the health of people young and old across Rochdale borough.

Primary school pupils are invited to create a 70th birthday card which shows how doctors, nurses and other health professionals have helped them, their families and friends.

Pupils are also asked to include a line to explain what their picture is of and how it is special to them.

Ideas

To help pupils to come up with design ideas Rochelle from Rochdale’s local superhero family, the Healthy Heroes, has written a brief for children to use. Download Rochelle’s brief here.

We have also created an activity sheet which parents and carers may find useful when talking to children about what the NHS is and the many different job roles available in it. Download the activity sheet here.

Prizes

Sports and leisure prizes, donated by Link4Life, will be awarded to pupils for the three best competition entries:

One free 6 month Junior Link4Life membership

One free Summer Holiday play scheme place

Five Family Swim vouchers (2 adults and 2 children)

The first prize winner’s entry will also be displayed at NHS HMR CCG and Rochdale Borough Council Headquarters, Number One Riverside during July as part of their plans to celebrate 70 years of one of the nation’s most loved institutions.
